Field Data

Files:  Field_Data.xls     Field_Pivot_Tables.xls

Field data are stored in the access field_data table.  The data were imported from the  'field_data.xls' workbook, which contains:

• the entire field database (1990-present)
• field definitions (also defined in the access table & data dictionary stored in updates.xls)
• pivot tables for summarizing & analyzing the data

The excel file contains all the field data.    A copy has been uploaded to to the access field_data table and linked to the sites table.

The database can be analyzed using field_pivot_tables.xls.  This is linked to the 'master_field_data' query of onondaga.mdb.  Structure and operation is similar to pivot_tables.xls .

Notes on File Compilation
 

Three files provided by OCDWEP (LAKE, TRIBS, RIVER) were combined into a single sheet (DATA tab).

The RECORD_NUMBER field is the original order of the records, grouped by source excel files.

Extensive editing was required to convert the Source, date, and time fields into a consistent format.

The Site_Index contains unique site codes used to identify locations.

The Source_Index shows how the source fields in the original data were translated into unique Site Codes.

Source data are contained in columns to the right of the data table, but not linked to Access database
 

Update Procedures
 

Append new rows to bottom of data table.

The historical records can also be edited, as appropriate.

Copy the formulas in computed fields (in blue) to the new rows.

Make sure that Site codes are registered in the Sites table of the access database.

Follow uploading procedures to transfer the named range 'field_database' to the access 'field_data' table, replacing the entire existing table.
